Testimonials from some of ourgraduates: “Well,
its finally over. Now that it has ended it feels like we just started. I
will really miss the infinite knowledge of our teachers here. The great friends
I have made here have affected my life in the best way possible. I
will miss my days as a student at LSM.” Angela
M. Cummings What
an incredible 2 years! I would not trade this experience for anything. I
love this school. I love these amazing people... I love massage therapy.
Yay…LSM, you rock! Nicole
Harding "Its
different from any school I've ever been to. I am excited and ready
to start doing what I love… Touching People… Changing Lives – The
motto is true!" Karen
Holbrook I came
to LSM to start working toward a career. I expected to find enjoyment in
this career choice, but I didn't predict how much I would fall in love with
Massage Therapy. The experience of LSM is an utterly remarkable one. Valerie
Schwartz In June
2002, I started Louisville School of Massage after graduating from Borden
High School , Borden , Indiana . On my first day at LSM, as I walked
through the double set of doors I was only 18 years old and truly did not
know what to expect. I worried that I may not be able to do this. Could I
be a massage therapist? I am now walking out those same double doors. I am
not afraid. I feel that I have been well prepared for what may be ahead.
I am 20 Years old and I am a massage therapist! Stephanie
Hudson The Louisville
School of Massage professional preparation program exceeds state and national
standards. At
LSM, we use a variety of teaching tools and techniques, creating a multi-sensory
class experience in order to facilitate individual learning styles and
abilities. Classes
feature real life clinical examples and small group interaction. You
will learn the practical side of Massage Therapy as a science and business,
as well as its intuitive and artistic side. We
are guided by the belief that humans are physical/mental/spiritual beings
and that massage touches all these aspects. We believe that massage
is one of the most powerful tools for personal and global transformation.
Our goal is to provide outstanding preparation for a successful massage
therapy career while positively transforming the lives of students. Program
Previews are scheduled monthly on Saturdays at 10 am and last about
1 1/2 hours. It's a good time to see the school and meet
some of the instructors and usually some of the students. If those
times don't work for you give us a call (502)-429-5765 or
888-487-1740) and we'll set up another time to meet with you. As
we state in our mission, Louisville School of Massage offers “continuing
education which fosters human development in a variety of modalities and
techniques.” Perhaps
more than any other profession, massage therapy requires renewal and ongoing
learning. As we put our hands on others in a healing and caring way, we
discover our own need for deeper understanding of ourselves and our clients.
Continuing Education is a vehicle for the meeting this need. At
Louisville School of Massage we strive to provide ongoing education that
meets the needs of the advanced learner. As we shape our continuing education
program, we choose learning opportunities that address both the art and
the science of massage and function on physical, emotional and spiritual
levels. Hopefully, you will find opportunities here that will meet your
particular needs. We are open to hearing what those needs are and encourage
you to communicate with us. If there is something you would like to see
here, let us know. You can contact the continuing education director, Karen
Barth, at or call 502-429-5765. Listed
below are the opportunities for 2005. We will be adding more workshops
as the year progresses. In addition to what you see here, look for workshops
in oriental approaches, in chair massage and in stone massage. We hope
to see you in one of our workshops this year. Upcoming

Therapy I A Career
with a Past Massage
Therapy is perhaps the oldest continuously practiced healthcare art. Every
culture through recorded history has had some form of hands on healing
practice. India, China, Egypt, and Greece are among the cultures which
have contributed to the development of various aspects of massage.
Modern massage began in Europe in the early 1800's and migrated to
the United States by the mid to late 1800's. One of the areas it was
first practiced as a part of mainstream medicine was in Kentucky in
the early 1900's. Though having faded from popularity through negative
associations, Massage Therapy was “re-discovered” in
the 1970's and is now one of the fastest growing career options in
the United States. At
the Louisville School of Massage we honor our heritage as part of this
long and respected tradition and promote the highest and best from
those who went before. A
Career with a Future Massage
has stood the test of time and will be around for as long as people have
stress or pain. More and more, both alternative and mainstream healthcare
providers are using Massage Therapy. Opportunities to practice massage
include private practice, fitness centers, chiropractic offices, corporate
offices, salons, and airports. More Medical Doctors, chiropractors,
physical therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and hospitals are
beginning to acknowledge the effectiveness of massage and working with
massage therapists. To a great degree, where you practice is limited
only by your imagination. Massage Therapy offers you the opportunity
to work for yourself and to become part of a rapidly growing healthcare
field. With massage you truly have the possibility of “Touching
People, Changing Lives.” The
faculty and staff of the Louisville School of Massage serve the community
as well as prospective and practicing massage therapists by providing a
professional preparation program which exceeds national standards and includes
both academic and field experiences, and by offering continuing education
which fosters human development and improved skills in a variety of modalities
and techniques. We are guided by the beliefs that humans are physical/mental/spiritual/
energetic beings, and that massage touches all of these aspects; that massage
is one of the most powerful tools for personal and global transformation;
that a career as a massage therapist is a vocation or calling, not just
a job; that massage therapy is both a science and an art; and that practicing
massage therapists and massage therapy teachers should be cognizant of
their own journey. We value, promote, and reward enthusiasm, emotional
maturity stability, a positive mental attitude, and respect for others.
The Louisville School of Massage aspires to be nationally recognized as
one of the finest massage therapy schools, providing outstanding preparation
for a successful massage therapy career while positively transforming the
lives of students. Our teachers are committed to personal and professional
growth, and to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment
for learning massage as well as for healing and change. Through our active
involvement in the community, we have achieved a reputation as a place
where learning is challenging, yet fun. The
Louisville School of Massage is the first massage school to become state
approved in Kentucky. We have been recognized by the state since 1995.
We have been providing training for the National Certification test since
testing began. We are an affiliate school with the Associated Bodywork
and Massage Professionals, an international consortium of bodyworkers and
bodywork styles. Also we are members of the American Massage Therapy Association
Council of Schools. LSM has
an on-going teacher and assistant training program to ensure high quality
education and consistency between classes. 750

class is generally completed as a part of Professional Development, but under
special circumstances may be taken separately. The goal of this class is to
make Massage Therapy available to special populations who might otherwise not
have the opportunity to receive the benefits of massage. It allows you to learn
to adapt your work in unique circumstance and enhance your communication skills.
Our students have worked with people at the Center for Women and Families,
Hospice, the Kling Center, and many other placement locales. This
class is composed of required volunteer placement hours and in-class supervision,
support and feedback. TESTIMONIAL
“Practicum
was unlike any class I had ever taken. I chose to spend my 10 weeks at House
of Ruth, a nonprofit organization that assists people and their families coping
with HIV and AIDS. I said I wanted something that challenged me, not only
physically and mentally, but emotionally too. House of Ruth did that! Thank
you Brent and Katherine for living their Dream with us. I can honestly say
that Massage Therapy has changed my life. I am a happier and healthier person
now. I have made new friends and family that I will keep for a lifetime.
I will never forget my days here at LSM!!" Rachel
