Massage Therapy I - Beginning Massage Practice

This course combines traditional massage techniques with selected deep tissue techniques and other bodywork modalities to create a unique and powerful approach to massage. It also covers:

  • Massage Theory
  • Basic indications and contraindications for massage
  • The history of massage
  • Selected applied anatomy and physiology
  • Body mechanics: how to use your body properly so you can do massage more effectively and efficiently

Massage Therapy I consists of two days of class time on pre-established days consisting of lecture and plenty of hands-on practice. Each class is 3 1/2 hours in length.

After you have started learning the basics strokes you will begin a seven week period where you will be required to practice on two individuals a week off-campus and according to your own schedule.

The next seven week period begins your Palpation Lab. This is a great opportunity to further practice your skills on Licensed Massage Therapists and students in advanced classes. Palpation Lab is approximately 3 hours in length and is scheduled to accommodate personal schedules while not conflicting with your other classes.
